Missing out on top performers
If you’re responsible for hiring Directors and C-level Professionals you probably know first hand it can be pretty rough out there…
By the time you invite a candidate for an interview the likelihood is they are in the process with two other companies at the same time. Especially if they are top talent…
Recruitment isn’t predictable and you’ll lose candidates for all sorts of reasons, but one of the most common is inconsistency throughout the candidate journey…
The good thing is this is quite easy to fix.
Human beings are made to recognize patterns in order to help us make decisions…
And any inconsistencies in those patterns give us that negative gut feeling in our stomach.
And when that happens in the candidate journey, it’s likely you’ll receive an email that goes something like this…
“Thank you for your time, after a lot of consideration I’ve decided to reject your position and take a role at (your competitor).”
Listen, changing jobs can be scary and stressful and candidates will always take the safe option if they notice warning signs…
So, what you need to do is tailor your entire recruitment process to make sure that YOU are that safe option.
By that I mean avoid doing things like interrogating candidates in the interview process, leaving days before following up with candidates, and contradicting your firm’s values.
It’s usually not a single event that turns them away. Often, it’s the gap between the expectation and reality that turns them off.
So, when you’re recruiting and interviewing you need to make sure you prepare and are consistent.
