So many applicants, so little quality
The Talent Conundrum So many applicants, so little quality
Advertise any responsible and well-paid vacancy and you’ll be overwhelmed with applicants. People looking for a new role don’t need to spend hours scouring job boards and recruitment portals and more because they’re notified instantly about new vacancies by those very applications, and with a single click, they’ve applied.
The subsequent lack of quality in the applicant pool is the expected norm, along with those nagging doubts about the authenticity of the claims made in the more promising CVs. And yet when you’re not looking to recruit, there seems to be an abundance of professional talent out there, often working for partner organisations, or even worse … the competition.
We all know that sinking interview feeling when a high expectation candidate bears no resemblance to their CV persona.
It’s the talent conundrum, so many talented individuals in evidence, until the exact moment you happen to be looking for one. In the technology solutions market, for example, it’s especially important to find quality people, because it’s the value-add that your organisation offers that makes the difference, and brings in those high-value contracts.
There’ll be no shortage of competitors vying for the business, and it’s the customer-facing people and specialists that showcase the quality of your services … or lack thereof … whether that’s in the face to face meetings and presentations, on web calls or through written communications. Successful people tend not to be looking for a new job, they’re generally doing just fine where they are - thank you very much. And to be clear, we’re not saying that all people formally looking for a new job lack quality, but you take the point. It’s obvious that having excellent, motivated people makes the difference, and as we emerge into the dystopian post COVID economy, it will be the strong businesses that survive and grow.
The expected COVID redundancy bow wave will ensure HR managers are increasingly swamped with applications for every role. The companies we work with benefit from rarely having to advertise senior vacancies. They rely on us to find the talent, saving them time, and ensuring that when they do meet candidates, they’ve already been given our quality stamp of approval.
