Everyone lies
Everyone lies. It doesn’t matter how much you pride yourself on being an honest person. You will have told a lie at some point in your life, I guarantee it. And some lies are bigger than others, right? If you’ve got kids have you ever said to them… While stuffing your face with a pastry or some other delicious treat “You wouldn’t like this it’s spicy.” Or “Go straight to sleep or Santa won’t come.” How about to a friend… While rushing around looking for your wallet “I’m on my way now, be there in 10 minutes.” Or “Yeah course, the new haircut suits you.” These are small lies most of us tell in life, with no real negative impact, sometimes they’re purely to protect someone we care about. But what about the bigger lies. The really risky, dishonest ones that could come back bite you on the bum. Immediately I think of candidates in the Technology space and the lie that they so commonly tell on their CV’s. Their experience. And the thing is if they get through to an interview they always get found out and end up looking, not just dishonest but stupid. Even if you’re a hiring manager who is OK with a candidate having slightly less experience than required, you at least want them to be honest about it, don’t you?
