How’s business?
This is a question we’re so often asked as business owners. But right now, it might be your least favourite question, depending on the answer.
If your business has slowed down or not getting the results you want it’s probably down to the decisions and assumptions you’ve made. Assumptions about YOUR market or the economy as a whole.
But there’s a lot of business owners out there (in various markets) who are not thinking like this and as a result, they’re excelling.
Getting job orders in, completing new projects, hiring top performers, hitting their targets, getting consistent results, and positioning themselves ahead of their competitors.
As well as being optimistic these business owners are thinking outside of the current situation and forward-thinking.
I have seen lots of people doing this recently…
For example, a photographer friend of mine whose projects this year have ALL had to be rescheduled. Meaning she was bringing in no money, with no idea when she’d next work.
She got out of her own way and decided (once government guidelines had eased) to start offering ‘doorstep photoshoots’…
She agreed to stay a safe distance away and carry out a shoot for families and couples on their doorstep and front gardens.
She recently announced she was fully booked for the next month! She is even donating a percentage of what she charges for each shoot to the NHS.
Another example is comedian Russell Howard.
Again, no work on, a canceled tour. He is even isolated at his parent’s house, yet he’s remaining optimistic and thinking outside of the box…
The comedian has started a comedy show via YouTube from his parent’s house. He’s invited various guests to join him and be interviewed. The show couldn’t be further from the shiny studio set he’s used to, but the guy has made it work.
The show has had over 400 million views on YouTube so far. Not bad for someone who had no work on.
These are just two examples, but there are hundreds of business owners out there who are taking massive action in their businesses during this time.
The way I see it you have two choices…
You can choose to be proactive, forward-thinking, and give your all to your business during this time.
Or you can choose to make assumptions about your industry and slow right down, blaming the economy for your problems.
You decide.
