Call them back!
If you’re at the start of the hiring process with a new, exciting potential candidate they will likely forget your initial call or conversation.
It’s super frustrating.
Sometimes it feels like these people are sleepwalking through life.
It’s weird because they seemed enthusiastic when you first spoke with them, right. But you left it a few weeks and now that enthusiasm has gone.
That’s the problem with not having regular contact with potential candidates.
Tens of thousands just slip through the cracks.
The real problem is that emotions pass like waves.
They swell, break, crush, then disappear. Gone as quick as they came.
(It’s a bit like feeling ashamed for pigging out one weekend and telling yourself that this won’t happen again…. Then next weekend it’s a friends birthday and you’re happily helping yourself to cake and ice cream.)
That’s why it’s critical to keep the communication going throughout the ENTIRE hiring process, so you’re only talking to piping hot candidates…
So reach out, touch base, drop an email, leave that voicemail…
Just make sure the communication is flowing at your end and keep their enthusiasm going.
