If you’re responsible for hiring talent into your business you know first hand it can be tough out there By the time you invite a candidate for an interview the likelihood is they are in the process with other companies at the same time Recruitment isn’t predictable and you’ll lose candidates for all sorts of reasons, but one of the most common is inconsistency throughout the candidate journey The good thing is this is quite easy to fix Human beings are made to recognise patterns in order to help us make decisions And any inconsistencies in those patterns give us that negative gut feeling When that happens in the candidate journey, it’s likely you’ll receive an email that goes something like this “Thank you for your time, after a lot of consideration I’ve decided to decline your offer” Change can be scary and stressful, candidates will always take the safe option if they notice warning signs You need to tailor your entire recruitment process to make sure that YOU are that safe option Avoid doing things like interrogating candidates in the interview process, leaving days before following up with candidates and contradicting your firm’s values It’s the gap between the expectation and reality that turns them off
